Knowledge and Practice on Menstrual Hygiene among Urban Adolescent Girls in Bangladesh

Introduction: Menstruation-related poor knowledge and understanding among adolescent girls may lead to unsafe personal health care practice that ultimately increases the risk of genito-urinary tract infections, drop-out from school, academic performance, overall quality life. Being a developing country, it is an unrecognized problematic area in Bangladesh. Therefore, crucial assess on menstrual hygiene urban Bangladesh.
 Methods: This was community-based cross-sectional study conducted Department Community Medicine Rajshahi Medical College 495 purposively selected girls. Data were collected using semi-structured interviewer-administered questionnaire.
 Results: The majority (57.2%) respondents more than 15 years old, most (93.3%) Muslim. Most (82.5%) have experienced menarche within age range 12-15 years, respondents, 259 (52.32%), informed about menstruation before menarche. Their source information mothers cases. Out who participated this study, 70.9% had good menstruation. About 82% used commercially made sanitary pads, 35.2% changed pads or clothes three times day during menstruation.
 Conclusion: (70.9%) menstruation, 73.3% hygiene. there need design implement universal awareness creation advocacy programs improve their safe healthy management promote hygienic practices by creating appropriate supportive home social environment for all girls.
